Outreach

Outreach

Part of our vision is to become a community center through the spirit-driven outreach provided by our open, caring, and active church membership.

To help live this vision, we become a community center by allowing groups to utilize our church as well as by having activities such as the Fall Festival, the Easter Egg Hunt, and Vacation Bible School at our church.

We also support local and international outreach activities through the Week of Compassion giving and other contributions to such tragic events as the earthquake in Japan and the hurricane that devastated Haiti.  In addition, we support local organizations such as The Family Tree, Friendship Trays, and participate in the CROP Walk every year.

For a full list of organizations, near and far, that we support, check out the Christian Action/World Outreach Committee page.

Children’s Literacy is a FOCUS for our Local Outreach this year. In the fall of 2015, we adopted Huntingtowne Farms Elementary School (located behind Forest Hills Church- off of Park Road) to support this school year. The school is a Title 1 school- the majority of students come from low-income families and are in need of free lunch support.

We are doing a number of things to support the school, starting with:

*We collected a big basket of school supplies to begin the school year.

*We will continue to collect: copy paper, #2 pencils and pencil sharpeners, as these are the most requested/needed items at this time.

*The school also collects Campbell Soup labels and BOX TOPS for education. Please bring those in as well. See white laundry basket in Narthex for collections.

BE A READING BUDDY!

Reading buddies are still needed at Huntingtowne Farms Elementary and also tutoring and lunch buddies are needed through fifteen schools supported by A Child’s Place. A Child’s Place works to erase the impact of homelessness on a Child’s education by stabilizing their school environment as much as possible.

Any interest? Please contact Alicia Gagnon. Talk to her, Rhaji, or Cathy about their experience as a reading buddy! They’ll tell you all about it!
