Helms and Greg Jarrell
Our Pastors, Greg and Jennifer “Helms” Jarrell, are both graduates of Appalachian State University and Baptist Theological Seminary in Richmond, VA. Helms and Greg have two sons, John Tyson and Zeb. In 2005, Helms and Greg helped to found The Family Tree, a nonprofit hospitality ministry in West Charlotte where they currently live.
They now care for our church members, sharing their combined talents in worship, music, pastoral care, and community outreach. They are spirit-led individuals, and we are blessed to have them. On a personal note, Helms and Greg share common interests in gardening, music, basketball, and their outreach/service work.
Gene has been the music director at SouthPark Christian Church for over 20 years. Gene has a BA in piano performance and a MM in orchestral and choral conducting. His roles in the worship services include conducting the choir and being our lead pianist. He also enjoys composing many of the choral responses and various musical selections used during the worship service.
Popular with the congregation overall and the Youth, in particular, Gene shares these talents in a fun and respectfully manner with the church during Worship Service.
When Gene composes new music during various spiritual seasons of the year, it’s a special treat for us. Come meet Gene, and enjoy (and possibly join!) our Choir.
Tanya keeps the nursery each Sunday at our church, and she’s got tremendous experience, having been babysitting since she was 12 years old. She loves to see kids learn. For our SPCC membership, Tanya:
- Teaches the 4-6 year olds class
- Keeps the Newborn Nursery (up to 4 years old)
- Maintains and decorates the bulletin board outside the nursery
- Additionally supports the church by watching the kids of all ages for a monthly Parents Night Out.
Tiffany started working at SPCC as our Administrative Assistant in January of 2014. She has a BSBA in Business Management from UNC-Charlotte and a Masters of Divinity in Christian Education from Gardner-Webb University. She also works with Helms and Greg at The Family Tree in West Charlotte where she engages in life with neighbors there. She’s passionate about ministering to college students and living a life of creativity. She enjoys writing, reading, traveling, dancing and being outside.
Joe is a “Take Root” intern working both with SPCC and QCFamilyTree. Here at SouthPark, Joe is one of the Family Faith Coordinators working with young disciples and families. He graduated from Appalachian State University in 2006 and went on to work for Habitat for Humanity. He now lives in Charlotte with his wife Caroline and little dog Winkler. Joe loves to cook, garden, camp and travel.
Lesley-Ann moved from Atlanta to Charlotte to live and work with us as the second “Take Root” intern with SPCC and QCFamilyTree. She is also one of the Family Faith Coordinators. She has an MDiv in Global Christianity as a recent graduate from McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta. With a Spanish background and a passion for cross-cultural ministry, she’s hoping to eventually follow God far, far south. She loves being behind the camera, but she’s learning that being in the pulpit is just as much fun. During seminary, she spent a lot of time with the youth at Park Avenue Baptist in Atlanta, helping with homework and learning about their days. She works as the designer for McAfee’s online magazine, Tableaux. On days off, she loves to hike, read, consume large amounts of coffee and hang out with Netflix.
